SKIP HIRE FAQs

How do I order a skip?
Call us on 01442 233022 and speak to one of our friendly team members who will be more than happy to help.

When and how do I pay?
All skip orders are paid for at the time of ordering. We accept payment by all major credit cards except American Express. We do not accept cash.

What am I NOT ALLOWED to put in my skip?
Fridges/Freezers, Tyres, Paint Cans, Asbestos, Clinical/Medical Waste, Fluorescent Tubes, Gas Canisters, Solvents, Liquids, Oil, Batteries, Hazardous/Toxic Material are not permitted in general waste skips. If you are unsure about an item or should you wish to dispose of any hazardous items then please call our skip hire team on 01442 233022 who will be more than happy to help you.

Where can I put my skip?
A skip can be placed anywhere on private land. We do not place skips on grass verges or in a location where our truck must drive over a raised kerb or any grass area. If we need to place the skip on the road you will need a permit for this. Please contact us if you cannot place the skip on private land and we can organise a permit.

Do I need a permit?
Permits are required by most local councils for skips that need to be placed on a public highway and many councils require varying notification periods. We will notify you of this time period when making the booking. Holywell Haulage will not place skips on the highway without a valid permit.

What area’s can you get a permit for?
We cover Hertfordshire, Luton and Central Bedfordshire for permits.

I need a skip on my drive, how wide is your lorry?
A standard skip lorry requires a minimum of 10ft (3.3 meters) width to gain access, regardless of what size skip you have ordered.  If you have site restrictions, please contact our skip hire team on 01442 233022.

Will my drive be damaged by the skip?
While our experienced drivers take every care to prevent damage, block paved and soft tarmac drives can be damaged when skips are placed on them. Heavier skips which require stabilising equipment may also potentially cause damage to your drive. If the ground is not suitable for HGV’s, we will not accept responsibility for any damage to the premises or manholes. It is the customers responsibility to ensure the ground can hold the weight a HGV.

How high can I fill the skip?
You must not overload your skip. To ensure the skip is safe to transport you must not fill past the top of the sides. Overloaded skips will not be taken under any circumstances and may incurr a charge for a wasted journey.

How long does it take to get a skip?
Holywell Haulage offers a same day or next day service, this is however subject to location, availability and whether or not a road permit is required.

How long can I keep my skip?
Our hire period is for a maximum of 14 days. If you require the skip to be serviced within this period, please contact our skip hire team on 01442 233 022.

How long does it take to collect my skip?

Skip collections can take up to 5 working days. We always do our best to work around customer requirements when booking collections.

What skip is suitable for heavier waste such as soil?
Our 4 or 6 yard skips are suitable for heavier waste such as bricks, soil or concrete but must be a level load on collection.

Do I have to be in for the delivery and collection?
You do not need to be present for either, if there is a certain place you would like the skip to be placed on delivery please let us know when making your booking.
For collections, we ask that you ensure that there is constant access to the skip so the driver can just come and pick it up.

How do you deliver the skip onto my drive?

The skip is lowered straight off the back of the lorry onto your driveway. You must not move the skip once it has been delivered.

What happens to my waste?
We have our own licensed waste transfer station, where we process 100% of the waste that comes in to us.
